Fines, damage and insurance

What about traffic and parking fines?

Traffic fines are subject to criminal law and must be paid by the driver. Autoverhuur Meerschaert will provide the authority with the requested information. An administrative cost of €15 excl. VAT will be charged for this.

Parking fines or retributions are subject to local legislation and must be paid by the driver. To avoid extra costs, we recommend that you pay this within the payment term.

If Autoverhuur Meerschaert receives the parking fine or retributions , this will be paid by Autoverhuur Meerschaert and this amount will be transferred and charged to the customer, added by an administrative cost of €15 excl. VAT.

If you do not agree with the parking fine, you can always submit a notice of objection to the relevant municipality. Please always inform Autoverhuur Meerschaert about this. Regardless of the status of the dispute, Autoverhuur Meerschaert will always invoice the amount of the parking fine or fee. If it appears that the dispute is justified, the invoice will be credited and the amount will be refunded to the customer.

How is damage to the vehicile registered?

When the vehicle is picked up, the vehicle will be checked together. The condition of the vehicle is registered and included in the rental contract. To avoid discussions, we ask that you take photos of the vehicle on departure and arrival.

What about the vehicle insurance?

The civil liability insurance is included in the rental price with a deductible (franchise) of €500. This civil liability insurance is valid in the following countries: Andorra, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, North Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg , Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Sweden & Switzerland (Last update 01/01/2021).

Each vehicle is provided with omnium insurance with an exemption (franchise) of 3% of the catalog value.

The following damage is not covered by the omnium insurance:

  • Damage to the roof of the vehicle
  • Damage as a result of the cargo or goods being transported
  • Damage intentionally caused by the renter or driver
  • Damage as a result of gross error or negligence (e.g. drunkenness, driving through a red light, excessive speed, …)
  • Odor damage in the vehicle (e.g. smoking, …)
